DESERT STORM
Troop support. During the war, U.S. associations sent a mountain of donated items to the Persian Gulf to cheer the GIs: 11,300 portable AM/FM radios from the Electronic Industries Association, Washington, D.C.; 210,000 paperback books from the Association of American Publishers, Washington, D.C.; 100,000 sundry packs from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., Kansas City, Missouri; and hundreds of golf balls from the Professional Golfers' Association of America, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and the Golf Manufacturers and Distributors Association, Cincinnati.
