Under the guidance of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the NYSE and Nasdaq entered into a pact to trade each other's stocks in the event of a disaster.
The NYSE has finished testing its ability to trade the top 250 Nasdaq stocks accounting for nearly 80 percent of the market's overall volume, if needed.
Nasdaq is ready to trade all NYSE listings via the InterMarket system, if needed. The switch can be made within hours.
