REAL LIFE DRAMA: The Group Theatre and America, 1931-1940
Wendy Smith says she first became aware of the Group Theatre in the early 1970s when she found Harold Clurman's The Fervent Years: The Story of the Group Theatre and the Thirties among her parents' books. I, too, became aware of the Group in the early 1970s, but as a graduate student in art history who took a theater course on Stanislavsky given by one H. Clurman. What follows is more a memoir than a review, but it may provide a borader context for Smith's Real Life Drama.
