JOPERD and author David Kahan could not have been more topical than with the article, "Islam and Physical Activity," in the March 2003 issue. On the day that I received JOPERD, the cover photograph for the Chronicle of Higher Education (March 28, 2003) read, "Conflict with Iraq prompts protests by some students while others back President Bush." The Chronicle Review (also March 28, 2003), ran a long op-ed piece by financial historian Niall Ferguson. His question is an intriguing one: "Should the United States seek to shred or to shoulder the imperial load it has inherited?"
