No one can say with any real certainty how the local tourism trade is faring this year, since the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau has not released its customary monthly update on the travel business since last December.

The reports, which detail such key things as each month's total visitor spending, attraction attendance and hotel occupancy levels, are stalled while the research firm that compiles the data updates the statistical model used in compilation, said bureau spokesman Al Reese.
