In 1974, Ward Estate (presently known as Victoria Ward Ltd.) began construction of The Ward Warehouse--or as Hawaii Business called it, "one of the more interesting projects started in some time." Predicated on the idea that many small manufacturing firms wanted actual offices as opposed to the typical warehouse settings, Ward designed an 80,000-square-foot development with combined facilities for both manufacturing and retailing. Then-Ward Estate Director Edward Hustace likened the complex to "a product fair or trade show," saying it would be the first development of its kind in Hawaii.
