Sep. 12--ST. LOUIS ROOM DRAWS A DIVERSE CROWD: Michelle Swatek often winds up at the downtown Famous-Barr store when she goes to lunch. What attracts her as much as the food are the memories.

"I used to go there with my mother and my grandmother. It's part of my childhood . . . and it still has that same old St. Louis feel to it," said Swatek, executive director of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

On the sixth floor of the department store, the St. Louis Room opened 50 years ago. Pictures show women in hats and gloves as well as men in business suits ...
