CHICAGO, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- A commitment to physician-patient communication has earned the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) the 2003 Bayer Institute for HealthCare Partner Award.
In 2001, the AAOS established an innovative Communication Skills Mentoring Program, a three-year pilot project designed to train orthopaedic surgeons in a new model of communicating with patients. AAOS is the first medical specialty association to develop a comprehensive national communication training program that would provide orthopaedic surgeons with a model for communicating with patients both in the office and the hospital.
