Although plenty of artists are said to be wary of the spotlight, rare is the one who will actually flinch in horror at the sight of a single lightbulb. But when director Sofia Coppola arrives for an afternoon interview at the candlelit bar of Manhattan's Gramercy Park Hotel and sees that the cleaning crew has illuminated the place with a lone floodlight, she stops at the threshold, winces and damps her eyes shut.
