Article: California Unemployment Rate Dips, but State Is Still Losing Jobs.

Sep. 13--In the last major look at California's troubled economy before the recall vote, state officials said Friday that the unemployment rate dipped slightly in August even though the state continued losing jobs.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.6 percent, down a tick from a revised 6.7 percent in July, the Employment Development Department said. The rate for July was previously reported at 6.6 percent.

Sacramento-area unemployment also fell, three-tenths of a point to 5.4 percent, but there were worrisome signs that the big state budget deficit was starting ...
