KOWLOON-Canton Railway Corporation's (KCRC) West Rail, the largest current civil engineering project in Hong Kong, is due to open at the end of next month, more than two months ahead of the original target date. It has also come in well under budget at $HK 46.4 billion ($US 5.9 billion), compared with an original estimate of $HK 64 billion.
Pre-operational trial running, in which trains run to the schedule of revenue operations, started in June and was due to last for three months.
