Speakers in the Security Council today condemned recent violence in Kosovo and reiterated that resolution 1244 (1999) remained the basis for future efforts there. That resolution called for the setting up of provisional self-government institutions there, the consolidation of the rule of law, and reconstruction and economic development of the province with the help of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
