INTRODUCTION
The explosive growth of the Internet and other interactive technologies in distance education course offerings in higher education are quickly transforming the availability of courses that meet the unique needs of the non-traditional adult student (1). The World Wide Web has become a firmly entrenched virtual reality, seen as a space where "people can communicate, work, trade, or spend leisure time" (2).
