Sumitomo Bakelite (Tokyo) says it has acquired phenolic resins producer Fers Resin (Barcelona) for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition was carried out by Durez Spain, an affiliate of Sumitomo Bakelite subsidiary Durez Europe (Genk, Belgium). Durez Spain has been renamed Fers Europe.
Fenocast (Barcelona), the manufacturing arm of Fers, has capacity for 12,000 m.t./year of solid phenolic resins and 6,000 m.t./year of liquid resins. Fers has sales of about 31 million [euro] ($34 million)/year.
