The BBC's Canterbury Tales is a modern reworking of Geoffrey Chaucer's poems of the stories told by pilgrims on their way to the shrine of St Thomas Becket.
There are six films, each of which takes a snippet of one of the poems and from it develops a 21st-century story. It is a risky venture, but it succeeds so well that you want to go back and read, or reread, the original tales.
The episodes I've seen so far - The Knight's Tale, The Miller's Tale, and The Sea Captain's Tale - are completely delightful. And, what's more, the series has produced a genuine star - Billie Piper.
