Sep. 16--You wouldn't think Johnston County would have a shortage of open spaces to play ball. But as the once-rural county has filled with new homeowners, the demand for ball fields has outstripped the number of recreation spaces available.
This month, Johnston County commissioners began studying ways to improve access to sports fields in the county.
County Manager Rick Hester plans to take inventory of the county's ball fields, with a report due this winter that identifies areas underserved by parks and recreation areas.
