Sep. 16--TRIBUNE TO LAUNCH FREE TABLOID IN CITY: A free morning tabloid targeting commuters primarily in Manhattan will be launched this fall with the backing of Tribune Co., publisher of Newsday.

Newsday publisher Raymond Jansen told staffers yesterday the Tribune will announce today it's investing in the company that will publish the new New York paper.

It's believed the company is North American Newspaper Holdings, which recently ran ads on the Web seeking editors and reporters for "life altering work" in New York City.
