Raising the state's minimum wage from the current $5.15 an hour to $6.80 an hour would help workers earn enough to put food on the table without wiping out jobs, a report released Monday says.
The study by UW-Madison's Center on Wisconsin Strategy bolsters a call by Gov. Jim Doyle last week for a higher minimum wage as a key element of his Grow Wisconsin economic plan.
According to the center's report, 130,400 workers would get higher wages if the increase were approved, and more than half of them -- 57.6 percent -- are adults.
Another 147,600 workers making $6.80 to $7.80 an hour would probably benefit as well, the study ...
