Jakarta, May 26 (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Bungaran Saragih said here Monday his ministry would consider regulating the rice trade if the Finance Ministry failed to increase the duty on rice imports.
Speaking at a parliamentary hearing, Bungaran said the Indonesia's rice import duty of 30 percent was the lowest in the world where in other countries it could reach 100 percent. "We have asked the Finance Ministry to raise the rice import duty but we have yet to receive a response so far," the minister said on the sidelines of the hearing.
