The Australian Army deployed tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the first time in July as part of a multinational force to restore law and order to the troubled Solomon Islands.

The UAVs, manufactured by Aerosonde Ltd. (Melbourne, Australia), are based near the archipelago nation's capital, Honiara, Lo carry out surveillance of remote areas on the island of Guadalcanal (where Honiara is located) but have sufficient range and endurance also to fly missions over the rest of the Solomons.
