The Government's planning inspectorate may be asked to intervene in a controversial decision to approve the demolition of a historic city-centre building.

Campaigners say Forth House, in Newcastle's Grainger Town and central conservation area, was the home of famous engraver Thomas Bewick's neighbour and fronts on to the newly-named Thomas Bewick Square.
