Sep. 23--Joe Natoli, president and publisher of the Mercury News, is leaving Silicon Valley to oversee Philadelphia's two daily newspapers.
Natoli, 48, came to the Mercury News in March 2001. Effective Jan. 1, he will replace Robert J. Hall, chairman and publisher of Philadelphia Newspapers Inc., who recently announced his retirement. A successor
is expected to be named within a few weeks.
The Mercury News and the Philadelphia papers are owned by San Jose-based Knight Ridder, the nation's second-largest newspaper publisher.
