What's the service life expectancy of a wood utility pole?
Thirty to 40 years?
Not according to a study conducted and released by the Canadian Institute of Treated Wood, most utility companies in the United States assumed a life expectancy of 30-40 years. The study, based on results of surveys requesting real-life reformation from actual experience, said that expectancy is more like 75 or more years--when maintenance and treatment is conducted regularly.
Wood poles and structures will be the topics of several sessions during the Utility Pole Structures Conference & Trade Show, November 5-6 at the Silver Legacy Resort in Reno, Nev.
