For years Ken Oplinger has wanted to move to Bellingham to be closer to family, and he'll get his chance with a job he has been familiar with--reviving a Chamber of Commerce that is looking for new leadership and direction.
Oplinger, 34, was selected from 75 applicants to take over as president of the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce and Industry, succeeding long-time President Mike Brennan, who resigned at the end of May after 20 years at the position.
Currently the CEO and president of the Visalia Chamber of Commerce in Visalia, Calif., and a member of the Visalia Planning Commission, Oplinger will begin his new job as chamber president in mid-October.
