Sep. 23--The sweet deals auto buyers have enjoyed from U.S. carmakers have stung parts makers like ArvinMeritor, who will close its Franklin plant as part of a long-running restructuring plan.
Union officials have told the 800 employees at the factory that ArvinMeritor will shift production of auto exhaust systems during the next year to other facilities, including the 525-employee plant about 25 miles away in Columbus.
The shutdown coming at Franklin is the latest in a series of setbacks for Indiana's huge auto parts industry.
