23 SEPTEMBER 2003 ALOFI (Pacnews) --- A regional water and sanitation expert says recent studies have shown the increasing importance of integrating community participation and gender issues as part of sustainable development with Pacific Island communities.
Presenting a paper on the issue at the STAR sessions, SOPAC's water and sanitation officer, Rhonda Bower, said Pacific Island communities are slowly switching on to the idea that community participation and gender issues are becoming fundamental to sound sustainable development management.
