Bank of Oak Ridge announced it is the first bank in the area to offer a new service that provides FDIC insurance for deposits up to $1.5 million. The service is called Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service, or CDARS, and works by dividing the deposit into smaller sums and distributing them among other FDIC-insured banks. It is available to individuals, small businesses and corporations. CD holders know which FDIC-insured banks hold portions of their deposit but get one interest rate, one bank statement from Bank of Oak Ridge, and one tax statement. No confidential financial ...
