This article explained that hundreds of pregnant women a year are laid-off although this is against the law if the basis for firing was the pregnancy. It stated that the Ministry of Labour admitted to being complacent in the treatment of cases when they were approached to issue a special permit without which pregnant women cannot be fired. Many of the clerks were indeed not versed with any of the law relating to the firing of pregnant women and therefore did not act fairly.
