PHILIPPINE history books have identified General Malvar y Carpio as the last revolutionary general to surrender to the Americans. He was more than this.
Documents from the Philippine Insurgent Records housed in the National Library of the Philippines show that General Malvar was the second President of the Philippines, having succeeded to the presidency of the First Philippine Republic following President Emilio F. Aguinaldos capture by the Americans at Palanan, Isabela on March 23, 1901. General Malvar occupied the presidency from this date until his surrender on April 16, 1902.
