Aug. 5--SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--In a swift decision with no discussion, the City Council voted Monday night to leave the state's health insurance program for public employees.
The council's vote makes the city of San Bernardino the fourth agency to opt out of the California Public Employees' Retirement System health insurance benefits program out of the 1,100 it insures.
Escalating costs, dwindling provider choices, forced benefit plan changes and noncompetitive rates led to the city's decision to leave the program.
