Sep. 4--Some air guns that fire plastic, ceramic or other projectiles are no longer considered toys in California under a new law signed by Gov. Gray Davis Wednesday.
The law, authored by California Assemblywoman Gloria Negrete McLeod, D-Chino, exempts guns that fire any projectile of 6mm caliber or smaller from regulations for "toy" guns that required them to have bright orange or green barrels. It also subjects the guns to the same laws that regulate BB or pellet guns that fire metallic rounds.
