Sep. 3--The home-furnishings industry has received its first encouraging retail sign of 2003, as manufacturers reported a slight increase in new orders in June, according to a survey by a High Point financial-services company.
BDO Seidman LLP said that its monthly survey of domestic manufacturers found that the value of new orders rose 1 percent to $2.1 billion in June. It was the first increase in new orders since November.
The report found that 48 percent of the survey participants experienced an increase in orders compared with June 2002.
