Knowledge of GM foods remains low, but opposition has softened.(Brief Article)

Americans' knowledge of genetically modified (GM) foods remains low and did not increase over the past two years, according to the findings of a poll conducted by The Mellman Group for the Pew Initiative on Food and Biotechnology. Thirty-four percent of those surveyed have heard a great deal or some about GM foods, compared to 44% in a similar survey in 2001. Similarly, 36% have heard a great deal or some about biotechnology use in food production, compared to 45% in 2001. Notably, public awareness of GM foods did not increase, but actually declined, despite the increasing amount of GM crops being grown by farmers.
