People with asthma who use inhaled steroids over the long term may increase their risk of developing cataracts, a new study suggests.
Previous studies have raised the possibility that steroids taken orally might lead to cataracts, but evidence on the inhaled medicines has been unclear.
To examine the question, researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine analyzed the records of more than 15,500 people older than 40 who had cataracts. They then compared the data with an equal number of people who did not have cataracts.
