SAN DIEGO -- Add Clint Barmes to the list of candidates to fill the second base void for the Colorado Rockies next spring.
Barmes has played exclusively at shortstop for the Rockies in his seven starts in September, and 132 of his 134 starts at Class AAA Colorado Springs were at short, with the other two at second.
``(Rockies hitting coach and a former minor league manager with San Francisco) Duane (Espy) said Barmes reminded him a little of Robbie Thompson when he worked out (at second),'' Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. ``Playing like Robbie Thompson is another thing.''
