Talk about a major find! These 10 songs were Townes Van Zandt's first Nashville recordings, recorded fully two years before his 1968 debut For the Sake of the Song. As far as I can determine none of these songs ever resurfaced, although some did reappear as fragments in later songs.
The album demonstrates that Townes already had the songwriting gift. These early songs are fully formed and stylistically consistent with what followed two years later. They are a missing link. The slow ones are gorgeous, file upbeat ones bracing. His lyrics resound as only pure Townes Van Zandt can. Already in place are such recurring themes as ...
