APPLE CONCENTRATE--In the first half of 2003, the U.S. imported close to 30 million gallons of 70 Brix concentrate, approximately 6.4 million more gallons than in the same period of time in 2002. Over 33.0 million single strength equivalent (SSE) gallons entered the U.S. classified as some frozen apple concentrate, according to The Food Institute's analysis of the Bureau of Census data. China supplied the U.S. with 64% of the frozen product and 34% of the non-frozen concentrate. The dollar value of China's frozen apple concentrate was approximately $15.2 million.
