CHICAGO -- Sonar, used in submarine warfare, is now the talk of the ice machine industry.
During the recent National Restaurant Association (NRA) show here, two major players in the ice machine marketplace introduced sonar technology for bin control. Units have transducers instead of thermostats.
Officials of Scotsman (Vernon Hills, Ill.) said a user can choose a partial or full bin-level, depending on daily ice needs. "It allows for variable settings and water conservative," noted one official.
Ice-O-Matic (Denver, Colo.) showcased a similar technology that the company called "ultrasonic ice bin level control." One official said, "Ice ...
