TRADE Secretary Patricia Hewitt vowed yesterday that new laws would prevent a repeat of the ``scandal'' that saw staff at The Accident Group sacked by text message.
Ms Hewitt told the Labour conference that the Government was working to implement a new European directive that would give workers more rights to information and consultation.
And she pledged it would ensure companies had to treat their staff as ``partners'' - instead of allowing them to hear the bad news of job losses on the radio,or their mobile phone.
