After plenty of bad news, Eddie Bauer Holdings Inc. finally has something to smile about.

The Redmond-based outdoor clothes maker Wednesday reported its first profit since emerging from bankruptcy in 2005, thanks to sales of down clothing, coats and catchy Christmas gifts. The company also had fewer markdowns.

The company had profits of $63.2 million, or $2.11 a share, for the fourth quarter that ended Dec. 30, compared with a net loss of $12.8 million, or 43 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales increased 1.5 percent to $381.9 million from $376.4 million.
