Companies in Business with Florida Agencies to Pay 'Transaction Fee'.

Oct. 1--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Companies that do business with state agencies now have to pay a 1 percent "transaction fee" to cover the estimated $21 million-a-year cost of Florida's new Internet-based procurement system.

The arrangement, which triggered questions Tuesday from lawmakers and others, was made to pay for a new Web site, MyFloridaMarketPlace.com New York-based Accenture LLP, the site is intended to bring greater efficiency and accountability to government contracting. Supporters say it already has produced significant savings for the state.
