OAKLAND, Calif. - The Red Sox will see more than a new fuzzy beard on Barry Zito's face this postseason.
They will see more of Zito.
For the first time in Zito's four postseasons, the southpaw will, barring a sweep, pitch twice in a division series.
What will matter most to the Red Sox' fortunes is whether or not Zito will bear a resemblance to the clean-shaven Cy Young winner from last year, who went 23-5 with a 2.75 ERA, or the Zito who finished with a 14-12 record and 3.30 ERA this season.
No matter what, Zito will have two chances to look as good as possible.
