Adding several of Matra Automobile's non-production operations expands Pininfarina's capacity to offer automakers unified design, engineering and development services.
Pininfarina last month completed the acquisition of Matra's engineering, testing and prototyping units. That process started in June after Matra discontinued production of the slow-selling Renault Avantime.
It is the latest step in Pininfarina's strategy to expand from a conventional Italian coachbuilder - designing and building low-volume vehicles for other manufacturers - into the design and engineering on other projects.
