Oct. 3--After six straight months of decline, Orange County's resort tax on hotel rooms rose 4 percent in August, compared with the same month a year ago, county officials said Thursday.
Orange County Comptroller Martha Haynie called the increase "welcome news" and "a good sign for our local tourism industry."
The August tax take was $6.79 million, up from $6.5 million a year ago and 2.2 percent more than the county had expected for budgeting purposes.
