Nostalgia, Prestige Rules Kingsville, Texas, Ranch Auction.

Oct. 5--KINGSVILLE, Texas--Some were drawn by the sheer nostalgia of the King Ranch's first cattle and horse sale since 1988. Others were intent on taking home livestock from prestigious bloodlines.

Whatever the reason, a bejeweled and Stetson-topped crowd of about 2,000 people gathered Saturday at a charity auction to honor the legendary ranch's 150th anniversary.

A unique bull fetched $45,000, and a 15-year-old mare that had never been bred sold for $41,000, bringing the auction's grand total to $838,000. Of that amount, $179,000 will go to the new King Ranch Institute of Ranch ...
