The Germans got what they asked for, didn't they? Their homes were blown to pieces, their cities flattened, their women raped and their children killed because they had given their support to an evil and bloody regime.
We British cling to this belief like a comfort blanket. We saved the world from tyranny and if we had to use some hard methods then that was because we were forced to.
And we become seriously angry and resentful if it is ever questioned. When a German complains about his country's fate, we tell him to stop claiming victimhood and to shut up. He must be a secret Nazi, or something like that.
