Mining Industry Keeps Rocking in San Bernardino County, Calif.

Oct. 6--Mining in the Inland Empire isn't all about gold or silver. In fact, mining for sand and gravel, known as aggregate, showed the highest revenue for 2002 at $1.2 billion compared with gold which generated $95.4 million in 2002.

Minerals are the most plentiful natural resource in San Bernardino County, according to a report from the San Bernardino County Department of Economic and Community Development.

More than 90 percent of San Bernardino county mining occurs in the desert where mining industry property is assessed at $1.3 billion.
