Rabbi Joel Schwartzman's manner is pointed as a laser beam. Part of it is his bred-to-the- bones military persona - he's a retired Air Force chaplain - which takes guff from nobody.
But Sunday afternoon, Schwartzman's majestic bluntness was as a Jew, reacting to the weekend's Islamic Jihad strike on a Haifa, Israel, restaurant.
It wasn't only that the innocent, including children and infants, were being forced again to sub for military fodder, but that the brutality was timed for the weekend leading into Yom Kippur, the most solemn day of the Jewish year.
