THE NATIONAL LEAGUE FOR NURSING has developed a number of recent initiatives that focus on promoting and recognizing excellence in nursing education. These new initiatives represent an exciting challenge to NLN members and nursing education in general since they have the potential to stimulate, encourage, and support the re-creation of the educational enterprise. * One might ask why the NLN has chosen to place such an emphasis on excellence at this point in time. An examination of the present environment, with its increased competition, greater consumer demands, and heightened expectations reveals that a focus on the achievement of minimum standards is no longer acceptable. ...
