The British public remains deeply skeptical about genetically modified (GM) crops, an independent group told Prime Minister Tony Blair's government last Wednesday.
Farmers in Britain are not able to commercially plant any GM crops. There are several applications currently before European Union regulators, but no decision is expected before next year on whether these can be seeded.
An independent group led by Professor Malcolm Grant was charged by Blair's government to assess over the summer public mood toward an easing in the total ban on planting these crops.
